Testimonials

We reached out to Bryan because our 8 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback, Barkley, was getting too challenging to walk and he would only listen well in a class setting.  We asked Bryan to train Barkley off leash with the ultimate goal of being able to run and walk him without a leash.

After a few months of training Bryan has turned Barkley into a new dog.  Barkley is trained off leash and listens to all of the commands Bryan has taught him.  Barkley stays in the command until we give him the release word.

We also purchased a German Shepherd, Kori, from Bryan.  Kori is the most amazing dog we’ve ever had.  She is obedient, loyal, protection trained and terrific with our 4 kids.

It has been a pleasure working with Bryan.  He is professional, never misses an appointment, punctual, returns our phone calls and text messages right away and he has always made himself available when we need him.  Bryan also has the unique ability to read a dog and understands that they are all driven and motivated differently and he tailors his training accordingly. We highly recommend using Bryan, he has been great to work with.

i have worked German Shepherds for about 15 years now.  full disclosure i’m not a professional rather a die hard hobbyist  perhaps?  My interest is limited to family protection dogs. I also don’t usually write testimonials but thought this is worthwhile.

i have been lucky enough to have access to arguably the best trainers in the world.

i know online people will say there are no shortages of great trainers in the north east. But when i moved to the northeast i struggled finding the right trainer for me.  i realized that few trainers understood the subtle difference between types of training ie competition, family protection vs police k9 etc…  and that was very important to me.  My interests are limited to the ideal family protection dog.

i’m in a profession that frequently exposes me to the damage a dog can cause.  So i’m very careful with allowing working dogs around my very young kids.

i needed someone who was EXCELLENT at reading dogs, pushing the dogs during training sessions but not mishandling the dogs where they easily can become a liability.  I also needed someone that understood the difference between my needs and someone who is training a dog for competition. People underestimate the intricacies of family protection dog training.  You need a dog that is so clear headed that he doesn’t react to a child taunting him or a stranger that means no harm. A dog that you can take everywhere with you. but if the situation arises he must have the training and the testing that proves he will stick to protecting his family no matter the cost.  There are literally dozens of websites selling protection dogs to families who unfortunately are being conned not just out of their money but in the false sense security that they have a dog who will protect them if the need arises.

I met Bryan in 2011 and after speaking with him i felt comfortable to start training my two Shepherds with him.  After a couple of sessions it was obvious he knew what he was doing.

i have so much confidence in Bryan that  i had him find me a green dog that we would finish together. i had never done this before, i’ve always had the dogs as puppies and had to be involved in raising them.  Again, because of my home situation with my kids i didn’t make that decision lightly.  But i trusted Bryan.

He found Zaro.  i don’t know how but he did. We imported Zaro and when i saw him lol i told Bryan i had my doubts to say the least. But Bryan had the ability to see the diamond in the rough.  He trained Zaro for about 3 months after which we finished the dog together.

Zaro is now 3 years old and i have to admit he is the best Shepherd i’ve had.  He goes to work with me daily, is around my children.  i literally take him with me EVERYWHERE i go. Coffee shops, outdoor dining, home depot etc….. this dog is so clear headed, and when i’m working him, the level of drive and aggression still baffles me.

Again the key here is knowing the difference in the type of dog the owner needs and Bryan works on delivering.

i’ve seen Bryan train competition dogs and i’ve seen him train protection dogs.  i’ve also just recently connected him with friends of mine for behavioral issues with their dog and they have been ecstatic with the results. it goes without saying but i strongly recommend him to anyone interested in training or finding a dog for their family.

Just writing this letter to let everyone know what a great trainer Brian Hendricks is. At 18 months of age our male min pin pup, Cody, was a terror in the house. He chewed anything: pens, rugs, tubes of medicine. He was declaring his male dominance in the household. we couldn’t get him trained to go to the bathroom outside or inside. we couldn’t get him to settle down at night. He walked all hours of the night and destroyed anything he could get a hold of. He was also being very aggressive towards our female min pin, Sasha, who is 3 years old and much smaller than him. Ahe weighs 7 lbs and Cody weighs 18 lbs. We were on the verge of getting rid of Cody, but we loved him and didn’t want to do that. We decided to call Brian and see what could be done with Cody.

Brian visited and informed us that we either had to have Cody trained or we would have to get rid of him because his behavior would get worse and not better. Brian promised us that he would deliver results and he did. now Cody and I can go for a walk together. Cody no longer pulls ahead of me. Brian also trained Cody with a remote control collar. Amazingly! Cody and I go out for short walks without me holding a leash and we use it to control him inside. Cody has now learned that in the morning before I leave for work, I will walk him and he does his business outside. I also walk him before I go to bed at night.

When we go out, he goes into a crate so that he doesn’t get into any trouble. Brian made us a guarantee and he delivered. He trained with Cody for over 6 months. It was a struggle, but he delivered results. We are very happy with the outcome of the training. Cody is still a puppy and likes to get into trouble, but he is not aggressive towards us or Sasha and he listens to the word, NO. Many, many thanks to Brian Hendricks for a job well done. I started working with Bryan a little over a year ago to help manage an aggression problem with my dog. I have had my dog since he was a puppy and took him to puppy preschool and a basic obedience class. He did really well and was sociable with people outside the family and other dogs. Then, when he was about 18 months old, he began picking fights with other dog in our home. I signed up for an advanced obedience class with him, and he not only showed aggression to the other dogs in the class, but to other people there as well. While the trainers at the school were very nice and sympathetic, they were not capable of managing my dog’s behavioral problems. Now, I had a big problem, a 90 pound plus problem to be exact. I sought out other trainers, but I was frustrated because they only wanted to do more obedience work. I felt my dog needed more than that to modify his behavior. That’s when a friend told me about Bryan.

Bryan evaluated my dog. Then he explained his assessment of the problem to me, and outlined a plan that involved obedience training and a behavior modification program tailored specifically to my dog. He was very supportive all the way. He always patiently answered my questions and addressed my concerns. I am happy to report in the period of time that my dog and I have started working with Bryan, we have made tremendous progress. My dog has earned two obedience titles and is working on going for his third. People comment to me all the time that they can’t believe he is the same dog. Most importantly to me, my dog and I have a great relationship. Thank you, Bryan.

I highly recommend Bryan as a dog trainer and problem solver. You will not receive cookie cutter dog training. Every dog is different, and Bryan knows this. He will tailor his training methods to suit your individual dog.

Dear Bryan:

I just wanted to let you know how extremely pleased we are with your services. You have done fabulous work training our two latest rescues, Mickey and Chloe.

As you well know, Mickey was a real challenge. He was afraid of the world when we first saved him, giving him a final home after living in 4 different places in his young life. the extensive work you did with mickey has made a difference as clear and black and white. He has come such a long way and now can function without being in fear every moment.

Chloe was very young when she adopted our family to be our own. She presented herself to you as another real challenge, being an extremely playful wild happy dog who wouldn’t listen to anything. Again, your work with her has turned this adorable wonderful dog into a loving pet who is now a pleasure to be around. She is truly one of a kind who now listens to commands and behaves beautifully. We owe that to your excellent work with her.

Of course, I also have to thank you for your patience and constant work with ME. As the pet owner, I realize that we have to be trained to know the correct way to instruct our pets. I would certainly recommend your services to anyone who wanted to improve their lives and that of their pets thru your training. Thanks again!

Several years ago, we were given Jesse, a six month old, Doberman cross who showed signs of having been abused. I just loved her, but she was so fearful of people that I was afraid she would bite someone. I contacted Bryan Hendricks, because I knew he trained police dogs, and I thought he would work well with Jesse. Jesse learned to heal, focus on what I am asking for, to sit, to come, and to lay down for an extended period, if I requested it. After her on and off leach training we decided that she needed to learn control protection as well. By learning control protection, Jesse was taught to defer to my commands on how to interact with visitors. Jesse is much more confident, she comes when she is called, and I know that I can trust her to behave around other people. Due to her past she will always require a degree of caution, but as long as I remember that, I can and do take her out running, horseback riding, and anywhere that I think will be fun for her. She is a much different dog since her training with Bryan. I hear that a lot, and it makes me feel pleased that I have helped Jesse.

Since Jesse had been so challenging, I decided that our second dog was going to be a pushover. We got Champ, a 2-month-old chocolate lab puppy, this past fall. Champ is really kind and the opposite of Jesse in every way. My only complaint is that he loves people so much that he will run off to find someone to entertain. He has deserted me in the park to greet some unappreciative adult, left the barn to play with some kids, and crossed the road to find out who was chatting over there and needed a big puppy to hug. Again, after Bryan worked with Champ, he heals beautifully, goes on the down, and most importantly, will come immediately when he is called, regardless of the lovely people he has found to play with. I guess I learned that even a really sweet dog could require training.

I love my dogs, and I like to take them as many places as I can. I am able to do this because they are well trained. I don’t have to worry that they will run off or disregard my wishes, and that is what I wanted. Lucky me!

Before having Bryan train our dog, Ranger, I was afraid we might have to take him back to the breeder. As a puppy, ranger was very loving and very, very full of energy, so much energy that giving him a walk was almost impossible. He never listened and pulled so hard he injured my wife’s shoulder. One day, he got off leash, and he kept running away. It took me over an hour to get him captured. It was a game to him. He also would run through the house so fast that he would knock over my six-year-old son, Parker. He did not know his own strength. He also would scratch our face with his big paws. This was after graduating from Puppy 1 and Puppy 2 courses offered at Pet Smart.

Bryan came over to our house to meet Ranger. He told us that Ridgebacks are one of the most difficult breeds to train due to their stubborn personality. He also said that he would have him so obedient that he would walk by our side ever without a leash. He was true to his words. Ranger now can be walked without a leash, right by our side. One day, we were out in a field with Ranger, and he saw a rabbit and took off after it. After he got about 20 feet, he was flying. I shouted, “Come!” and Ranger did an about face and came right back to my side as fast as he could. I was shocked.

We would recommend Bryan to anyone who purchases a new puppy. The changes we have seen in Ranger are unbelievable, both on leash and off leash. I recommend doing both of these training courses; the off leash is critical. The great thing about Bryan’s dog training method is that he keeps training the dog until he is fully trained and has mastered every command. It’s not a course, like many others, where there are a certain number of sessions, and if your dog doesn’t change, too bad. Bryan gives you a hand written guarantee. Another great thing is that Bryan comes to your house and trains your dog for you, even while your not home. We would leave Ranger in the back yard, and the training would take lace while I was at work. This is great for busy schedules. Once the dog is ready, he brings the owners into the training and the dog seems to start listening to the owner’s commands almost instantly. Another great thing great thing is Bryan offers lifetime training. Anytime you have an issue, just give him a call and he will come back or give you advice over the phone. That’s true service.

If it was not for having Bryan train Ranger, we would have had to get rid of him, or even worse, he might have run off and got hit by a car. Hiring Bryan as Ranger’s trainer has given us the family pet we have always wanted. Thanks!

I contacted Bryan because I was having a problem with a little miniature poodle named, Daisy, who I had rescued from a local SPCA. It became clear to me just why Daisy had been returned to the SPCA three times before. Daisy really had many behavior problems, and before I called Bryan, I was seriously considering putting Daisy to sleep. Bryan came the day after I called. He realized the situation was bad, considering Daisy had bit me so many times. She really loved working and learning with Bryan three times a week for about three months. At the end of the training period, Bryan and I worked together with Daisy, and I learned how to put Daisy through her new good manners.

Bryan’s many skills as a dog trainer, his technical expertise, and his positive approach show his obvious love for all creatures, great and small. I highly recommend Bryan Hendricks to anyone who believes, like I did, that their dog has impossible problems and bad habits. Keep in mind, the training includes the dog owner as well, you have to be committed to learn how to be the best dog owner you can be…just follow Bryan’s rules! Daisy will tell you that without Bryan, she wouldn’t be here today!
